Pre Assessment Test (PAT)

Pre-assessments are administered before students begin a lesson, unit, course, or academic program. Students are not necessarily expected to know most, or even any, of the material evaluated by pre-assessments—they are generally used to establish a baseline against which educators measure learning progress over the duration of a program, course, or instructional period, or determine general academic readiness for a course, program, grade level, or new academic program that student may be transferring into.

Pre Assessment Tool for RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a platform to provide recognition to the informal learning or learning through work to get equal acceptance as the formal levels of education. It aims to appreciate prior learning irrespective of the medium of achieving it. In short, RPL is a process of assessment of an individual’s prior learning to give due importance to learning as an outcome rather than learning as process.

RPL is a three step process:

Mobilization & Counselling

The Training Partner (TP) or any other authority as prescribed by the Steering Committee will identify and counsel candidates eligible for RPL through mobilization camps & advertisements etc. The mobilized candidates can be counseled, oriented about the standardized NSQF framework and basis their existing competency will be mapped against the suitable level of the concerned Job role for assessments. Candidates may be mobilized with the help of SSC’s Industry (clusters) connect.

Assessment

The candidates enrolled will be assessed by the Assessment Agency affiliated with the Sector Skill Council on the basis of assessment criteria decided by Sector Skill Council (SSC). The candidate will need to pass in the minimum assessment criteria of a particular QP decided by the SSC.

Assessment is very critical for the success of whole RPL process. There are possibly three ways through which a candidate can undergo the assessment process:

  1. Stand alone assessment- Candidate approaches the assessment centre on her/his own and gets her/himself assessed
  2. Worksite assessment- Assessment of the existing employees is carried out at shop floor.
  3. Assessment at Training centre- Assessment is carried out at the Training Centre.

Assessment Platform

The term assessment refers to the wide variety of methods or tools that educators use to evaluate, measure, and document the academic readiness, learning progress, skill acquisition, or educational needs of students.

While assessments are often equated with traditional tests—especially the standardized tests developed by testing companies and administered to large populations of students—educators use a diverse array of assessment tools and methods to measure everything from a four-year-old’s readiness for kindergarten to a twelfth-grade student’s comprehension of advanced physics.

Assessments also are used to identify individual student weaknesses and strengths so that educators can provide specialized academic support, educational programming, or social services. In addition, assessments are developed by a wide array of groups and individuals, including teachers, district administrators, universities, private companies, state departments of education, and groups that include a combination of these individuals and institutions.

Innovation Area

-Technology: Tracking of Assessment & Video Recording of Assessments.

-Process: PC and Tablet based Assessment.

Innovation Brief

Technology: OFFLINE /ONLINE TAB BASED ASSESSMENT

  1. Option of both Online & offline based assessment.
  2. Offline assessment application works even in absence of Internet.
  3. Ease of conducting assessment in remote areas where internet connectivity is rare.
  4. Video Recording will act as a deterrent against any unethical practice and assessment proof for certified candidates.
  5. Audio & Video recording begins as soon as the assesses /candidate logs in. This will allow remote testing by master assessor.

The purpose of an assessment generally drives the way it is designed, and there are many ways in which assessments can be used. Teacher-created assessments, which may also be created by teams of teachers, are commonly used in a single course or grade level in a school, and these assessments are almost never “high-stakes.” In short, assessments are usually created for highly specialized purposes.

PAT

Recently, National Skill Development Council (NSDC) has made pre-assessment, a mandatory step for Training Providers to determine the capability of students to take the skill examination. This will separate the students who are ready to take the exam and who are not. The students who pass the pre-assessment will be approved and granted access to take the assessment and be certified in their fields. Whereas, students who fail the pre-assessment will be provided training and be given another shot.

National Occupational Standards (NOSs) specify the standard of performance, knowledge and understanding when carrying out a particular activity in the workplace. Each NOS defines one key function in a job role. Example: For a Sales Associate, one of the NOS would be to 'To help customers choose right products'

A set of NOSs, aligned to a job role, called Qualification Packs (QPs), would be available for every job role in each industry sector. These drive both the creation of curriculum, and assessments. These job roles would be at various proficiency levels, and aligned to the NSQF. Example would be Qualification Pack of a Sales Associate
